The information I plan to provide to you about women of the Civil War era has been culled from various print and electronic media over more than a decade. I know these women. I love these women. I'm not a historian nor a scholar, and no one should take my word as the final analysis.

My hope is to give you enough information to entice you to want to learn more. The scope of information available on the internet today is mind-boggling. If I can share my knowledge with you and save you time, I will be a happy camper.

Some of my posts will be about specific women, and occasionally men. Others will tell you how these women lived--what they had to do to survive.

I will begin with a short biography of one of my favorite women, Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to graduate from an American medical school, and the trails she blazed for all women doctors who came after her.

See you soon
